Pursuant to Government Code Section 11019.9, all departments and agencies of the State of California shall enact and maintain a permanent privacy policy, in adherence with the Information Practices Act of 1977 (Civil Code Section 1798 et seq.), that includes, but not necessarily limited to, the following principles:

(a) Personally identifiable information may only be obtained through lawful means.

(b) The purposes for which personally identifiable data are collected shall be specified at or prior to the time of collection, and any subsequent use of the data shall be limited to and consistent with the fulfillment of those purposes previously specified.

(c) Personal data may not be disclosed, made available, or otherwise used for a purpose other than those specified, except with the consent of the subject of the data, or as required by law or regulation.

(d) Personal data collected shall be relevant to the purpose for which it is needed.

(e) The general means by which personal data is protected against loss, unauthorized access, use, modification, or disclosure shall be posted, unless the disclosure of those general means would compromise legitimate agency objectives or law enforcement purposes.

Each department shall implement this privacy policy by:

  • Designating which position within the department or agency is responsible for the implementation of and adherence to this privacy policy;
  • Prominently posting the policy physically in its offices and on its Internet website, if any;
  • Distributing the policy to each of its employees and contractors who have access to personal data;
  • Complying with the Information Practices Act (Civil Code Section 1798 et seq.), the Public Records Act (Government Code Section 6250 et seq.), Government Code Section 11015.5, and all other laws pertaining to information privacy, and
  • Using appropriate means to successfully implement and adhere to this privacy policy.

How We Collect and Use Your Information

Information Collection Policies

Some pages on this site collect information directly from individuals who volunteer to use our services. Collection of this information is required to deliver the specific services, but use of these services is voluntary.

The information we automatically collect and store in our logs about your visit helps us to analyze our website to continually improve the value of the materials available. Our website logs do not identify a visitor by personal information, and we make no attempt to link other websites with the individuals that browse this website.

Government Code Section 11015.5.(a)(6) prohibits all State agencies from distributing or selling any electronically collected personal information, as defined above, about users to any third party without the permission of the user. The State does not sell any "electronically collected personal information." Any distribution of "electronically collected personal information" will be solely for the purposes for which it was provided to us.

The State may provide or distribute certain lists and statistical reports of regulatory information as provided by law, but no personal information is sold or distributed, and all relevant legal protections still apply to the State's websites.

Cookies

A cookie is a small data file, which may include an anonymous unique identifier, that is sent to your browser from a website's computers. Cookies can contain data about user movement during a visit to the website. Session cookies are a mechanism for maintaining continuity during your visit on our site. These cookies go away when you leave the site, as they are maintained only in your browser's active memory during your session. Persistent cookies are stored on your computer so that you can be recognized by the site on subsequent visits. Google Analytics uses persistent cookies, as described below. Google Analytics

Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment uses a tool called "Google Analytics" to collect information about use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit, and the sites they visited prior to coming to this site and immediately after leaving. We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve this site. Google Analytics collects only the Internet Protocol (IP) address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a persistent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. In addition, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment’s website is anonymizing IP information and only part of device IP addresses are being used.
